Orchard MRT's Etude House

I could see the bright lights of Etude House as I approached it, a trademark of all Etude Houses in Singapore. (I guess, since the one in Citylink also has bright white lights shining out as well). A life-size Lee Min Ho grinned at me.
I had no idea that there was a branch of Etude House hiding between Orchard MRT and Ion Orchard.
OK it was partly because I have never shopped at Etude House! HAHA.
For a few minutes, I browsed the shelves. I was looking for this really cool product that my student had introduced to me - a nail polish pen for nail art, but that's another story. After searching for a while, I still couldn't find it.
I think it became obvious how lost I looked, because a salesperson came to ask if I needed help. He wasn't the most 'I-have-a-smile-on-my-face-forever' person in the world, but he deserved an award because he was pretty helpful and patient. I asked for the price when there was a price tag just below the product. I asked if there were any other colours when there were only pink tubes there. I couldn't even tell the difference between the eyeliner, lip gloss and nail polish pen tubes. And I am the girl, he's a man.
The lady at the cashier counter left abruptly as I left because she was carrying a box of thingamajigs, so the salesperson who had helped me quickly stepped in to take my payment. At least I wasn't kept waiting.
I paid, kept my things and prepared to leave, but to my surprise, he called out to me and handed me a facial mask. It was an O2 White Mask.
"This is for you," he said.
FREE GIFT! No price tag. I checked. Not bad, when I had only bought 2 items for under $20 only.

Tiger Airways' been flying with WINGS of SAFETY

Hi Tiger Airways,
YOU HAVE BEEN FLYING WITH WINGS OF SAFETY
I took your flight from Kuching back to Singapore on the 8-July,2010 No.TR2495.
But the flight was delayed due to a change of the pilot. The pilot on duty had knocked his head while inspecting the plane in Singapore. For safety reasons he was immediately replaced. As a passenger, I appreciate the wise decision as the safety of the passengers comes first.
ROOM for improvement
It would have been helpful to announce the delay to the passengers at the departure lounge so that we could call our families in advance.

Mdm Kwa Geok Choo- A brave young wife in dangerous times

Mdm Kwa Geok Choo- A brave young wife in dangerous times
When MM Lee Kuan Yew and his PAP started self-ruled Singapore in the '50s, they were facing dangerous times.
First there was the hard core Communists who "ruled" the Unions and Chinese Schools. There were constant riots, fighting and bomb threats.
When Singapore became part of Malaysia, we got caught in a war of Confrontation with Indonesia.
Similar to the news that we read this morning about bomb threats in England, France, Germany and USA , Singaporeans were then being warned about bomb threats. And then,  it actually happened, a bomb which was planted in McDonald House, along Orchard Road near Dhoby Ghaut went off. A number of Innocent office workers were killed.
Finally while we were in Malaysia, MM Lee was at a constant threat from the extremist  who saw him as a Chinese Leader infringing their rights and territory.
Mdm Kwa Geok Choo, as a young wife, knew the dangers her husband would faced. Imagine her thoughts every morning when she saw him off to work.
But she did not falter and gave MM Lee the courage to carry on his aim of making Singapore a proud and successful nation.
Would any other women have that same courage as Mdm Kwa had ? Thought wise, many would say "yes" , but in a real life situation like hers...
We thank  you Mdm Kwa Geok Choo for your courage given to help build our Singapore .
